A photo of two lynx taken on mountain roads in southwest Colorado is getting a lot of traffic, and for understandable reasons.
The animals have been scarce in Colorado since the 1970s, victims of trappings, poisoning and encroaching development. In 1997, Colorado Parks and Wildlife began a lynx reintroduction program, transplanting Canadian lynx to Colorado.
The photo, taken by a retired National Park Service employee, shows two of them at the edge of a road.
Perhaps it’s a harbinger of an increasingly robust lynx population in Colorado. We hope so.
